"Through the Whistling Thorns"
African Coucal
9x9 Pastel

I photographed this beautiful bird in Kenya, Africa. The Coucal, also known as the “rain bird”, makes quite a loud noise when rain is coming. Locals appreciate the early warning from this little bird. He spends his time, well hidden, in the Whistling Thorn Acacia trees, and when the wind blows just right you can hear the sound whistling through the thorns…thus the title.
